5 tips to soothe a baby's crying

Understanding a baby’s crying

Understanding a baby’s crying is one of the first concerns of parents. A newborn  baby can cry because he is hungry, because he has colic, because he wants to be changed or because he is cold …

Often during the first days we do not know what is happening to them, but little by little parents know their children and the reasons for their crying. Remember that sometimes  crying can also mean that the baby wants to express something else such as pain, illness, infection, or the first teeth coming out.

Sometimes a baby’s crying and not knowing the cause can overwhelm and despair. We even come to think that our child has something more serious when it comes to hunger, sleep or an emotional problem. In this article, we give you five helpful tips to soothe those uncontrollable baby crying that overwhelms parents.

Take our baby in our arms

Often, when babies have been crying for a long time,  they will spiral into anger and cry without relieving themselves. The best is to take them in the arms so that it discharges all their anger against our body.

As soon as they relax a bit, we can identify the reason for their crying, if they are hungry, if they are sleepy, or even if something is hurting them. To see if it is hunger we can approach the food at that point before they reject it, if it is sleep they will gradually relax and fall asleep.

Often times when children are very tired they are hyperactive and keep moving. The important thing is that they gradually calm down so that they can sleep. If we look at them, talk to them calmly and even sing a soft song, little by little the situation will calm down.

Give them time

If your child arrives from daycare or from their grandparents’ home crying uncontrollably, the cause may be emotional. First, we need to know if anything happened to him or if he wants to attract attention because he felt lonely and missed us.

The best is to try to spend most of the time with him  and make him feel all our love and care.

Establish rituals

Children need  rituals  in their lives to make them feel safe. If they know that after the bath comes dinner and then the reading of a story and that we change the habits on certain days, the child will realize it. This is why if they sometimes cry uncontrollably, it may be that they are disoriented and require order and daily rituals.

Stimulate them

Often our babies are simply bored. There comes a time when they want to crawl around the house, open the wardrobes and take everything out, climb on the chairs… We demarcate these activities for their safety and we even put them in a park so that there is no danger. . Nevertheless,  children feel the urge to explore and get frustrated.

If they can’t move, they tend to go into a spiral of uncontrollable crying. For this reason, it is best to give them a moment each day to let them explore under our supervision. Let them open a cupboard where you have put, for example, colorful plastic glasses and plates. Try to give him that freedom to explore. Look for  stimuli  in games their age or ideas that come to mind.

A change in attitude

If we find that nothing we are doing is calming a baby’s crying and showing no signs of pain or spiraling into a spiral,  we can try to change our attitude. We can try in a good mood by cuddling him, starting a game so that he follows us and even moving from room to room or going out with the stroller in the street.
